Alatrol Syrup contains Cetirizine, which is classified as an antihistamine. It is primarily used to alleviate the symptoms associated with hay fever (seasonal rhinitis), including sneezing, nasal congestion, runny or blocked nose, and itchy or watery eyes. This medication is suitable for adults and children over the age of 2 years. It is also effective in relieving symptoms of other allergies such as non-seasonal rhinitis, skin allergies (rash, itching, hives), and pet or house mite allergies in adults and children over the age of 6 years.
Alatrol Syrup is not recommended for individuals with severe kidney failure. If you are scheduled to undergo allergy tests, it is important to inform your doctor as Alatrol Syrup may affect the test results. Use caution when taking this medication if you have epilepsy, a higher risk of convulsions, or difficulties with urination due to spinal, bladder, or prostate problems. It is advised to avoid alcohol consumption while using Alatrol Syrup to prevent any unexpected effects.
Pregnant women should use Alatrol Syrup with caution only if specifically advised by their doctor. It is not recommended for use by breastfeeding women as it can pass through breast milk. The syrup is not intended for children below 2 years of age, and caution should be exercised when administering it to elderly patients.
Common side effects of Alatrol Syrup may include tiredness, headache, dizziness, nausea, dry mouth, and sleepiness. If any of these side effects worsen or do not improve, consult your doctor for further guidance.
Alatrol Syrup may cause excessive drowsiness with alcohol.
Alatrol Syrup is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effects on the developing baby; however, there are limited human studies.
It is likely safe to use Alatrol while nursing. Inferred from scant human evidence, the medicine does not appear to pose a major risk to the developing fetus. Alatrol usage that is extended or at higher doses might make a baby sleepy and have other problems.
Alatrol Syrup does not usually affect your ability to drive.
Alatrol Syrup should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. A dose adjustment of Alatrol 10 may be needed. Please consult your doctor. Not recommended in patients with severe kidney disease. May cause excessive sleepiness in patients with end-stage kidney disease.
Alatrol Syrup is probably safe to use in patients with liver disease. Limited data available suggests that dose adjustment of Alatrol Syrup may not be needed in these patients. Please consult your doctor.
Alatrol Syrup is an antihistaminic medication. It treats allergy symptoms such as itching, swelling, and rashes by blocking the effects of a chemical messenger (histamine) in the body.
Alatrol Syrup is effective in relieving symptoms associated with various allergic conditions, including:
Hay fever (seasonal rhinitis): It helps alleviate symptoms such as sneezing, irritated or itchy nose, runny or blocked nose, and itchy, red, or watery eyes. This benefit is observed in both adults and children over the age of 2 years.
Non-seasonal allergies: Alatrol Syrup can provide relief from symptoms like a runny and itchy nose that are associated with non-seasonal allergies.
Pet or house mite allergies: It helps alleviate symptoms caused by allergies to pets or house mites, including nasal congestion, itching, and sneezing. This benefit is observed in adults and children over the age of 6 years.
Skin allergies: Alatrol Syrup is effective in relieving symptoms of skin allergies, such as rashes, itching, and hives. It provides relief for adults and children over the age of 6 years.
Alatrol is a potent H1 receptor antagonist with no anticholinergic or antiserum effects. It causes almost no drowsiness and no behavioral changes at the pharmacologically active dose level. It inhibits the early stages of histamine-mediated allergic reactions and reduces inflammatory cell migration and mediator release in the late stages of allergic reactions.
Cetirizine 10 mg has a peak plasma concentration of 257 mcg/L (980 mcg/L in children) one hour after administration. Food has no effect on absorption, but it may slow it down slightly. After taking a 10 mg dose of cetirizine, the maximum blood concentration is 0.3 g/ml 30 to 60 minutes later. It has a plasma half-life of about 11 hours. The absorption of one object by another is extremely consistent. It has a renal clearance rate of 30 ml/min and an excretion half-life of about 9 hours.
Additive CNS depression when administered concomitantly w/ other CNS depressants (e.g. sedatives, tranquilizers).
Patients with a history of allergy to cetirizine or hydroxyzine are not recommended.
Keep in a dry place away from light and heat. Keep out of the reach of children.
